When Google chose their new name, Alphabet, it’s pretty clear that they didn’t bother checking to see if anybody else was already using it. According to this New York Times article, “alphabet.com” is already owned by BMW, and they don’t seem to be in any mood to sell it. If only there were some easy way to search for information on global businesses....

I don’t think it matters too much because it’s made to work purely as a parent/holding company for everything Page and Brin feel like doing. The fact that it doesn’t sell any products or services means that it doesn’t require the same marketing that Google did.
